Handwriting captivated my attention from a young age. My father always signed his name slowly, and with intention. I loved watching him write it and admiring how perfect it looked every time.

I got a Scholastic book catalog in 4th grade and saw The Calligraphy Book by Peter Grislis on the last page. I think I gasped. I knew I had to get it. What I didn’t know was that I needed to have the right supplies to practice with, and it was years before I figured that out that the felt tipped markers from the craft store weren't the best tool. What I did figure out was that I could change my handwriting whenever I wanted. Before school started each year I would practice my handwriting and come up with a new style.

Fast forward to 2017. I was chatting with a co-worker after addressing an envelope for a client in italic (and not great italic!), she mentioned that a co-worker in another office had a business doing brush lettering. I almost fell over! You can make a business out of this?! I was shocked, annoyed with myself, and determined to learn. A few months later I was sitting in Debby Reelitz’s basement learning Copperplate. Initially I told her I wanted to start a business in a year but once I started going down the rabbit hole of learning the many different hands, inks, paints, and papers, I knew it would take me much longer if I wanted to do it right.

I have taken over a dozen courses between private classes and IAMPETH conferences, all of which will benefit clients who come my way.
